Magnetic gripper

A lifting attachment holding ferromagnetic parts by a magnetic field. Permanent magnets need no power and so cannot fail; electromagnets can be switched but drop the load on power loss unless a backup supply exists. Holding force depends strongly on material, sheet thickness, air gap and surface condition – rust, paint and scale reduce it considerably.
