The unit is already there. The task has changed.
A hoist is sized for one task – and then the product changes. The new container is twenty kilos heavier, the pallet stands a metre further away, the gripper no longer fits. A new unit is the most expensive answer to that, and rarely the right one.
In nine cases out of ten the unit is not the problem – what hangs underneath it is. A different gripper, a different mount, a quick-change system for two workpiece families, and the existing manipulator carries the new task. That is the shortest route, and we examine it first before talking about larger modifications.
Capacity is not negotiable. A jib calculated for 100 kilograms will not carry 130, however solid it looks – the moment grows with reach, and the limit usually sits in the foundation or the suspension, not in the arm. We recalculate the modified condition instead of estimating it. If that shows a new unit to be the more honest answer, we say so.
A substantial modification can turn the operator into a manufacturer – with everything that follows: risk assessment, conformity assessment, operating instructions, CE marking. Where that threshold lies has to be judged case by case, and the question is often asked too late. We settle it before the work, not after, and take on the documentation where the threshold is crossed – technical documentation and CE support is one of our services anyway.
On older equipment the mechanics are often in better shape than the electrics. A contactor control from 1998 works, but it is neither sensitive nor able to report a fault, and spare parts are getting scarce. Replacing it with a current control brings smooth starting, intermediate positions and an error message that names the error – on the same unit the operators have worked with for years.
