A machine is only finished when its documentation is.
No technical file, no declaration of conformity; no operating instructions, no commissioning. This page collects what belongs to the documentation of a machine or plant – and which parts can be outsourced.

Two things are often confused: the internal technical file with which the manufacturer demonstrates the safety of the machine, and the operating instructions handed to the operator. European machinery law requires both – until January 2027 the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, thereafter the Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230.
Documentation does not end with delivery. Every modification changes drawings, parts lists and circuit diagrams; if they are not kept up to date, the next change is planned on a false basis. That is why change management and document management belong to the same topic.

Commissioning technical documentation
The manual is what you see. The work lies in what stands behind it.
