Application

Pulling a filter element overhead – two hundred times in one maintenance day

A filter element weighs four kilograms clean, up to twelve when loaded. Harmless enough – until you pull two hundred of them in one maintenance day, arms stretched overhead, on a platform, in dust protection gear.

Component
Filter candle, cartridge, bag filter
Weight
4 kg clean, up to 12 kg loaded
Length
600 to 2,000 mm
Frequency
50 to 300 per service
Posture
overhead, on a platform
Environment
dust, protective gear, confined
01 — The task

Eight kilograms is nothing. Eight hundred overhead is not.

Pull the loaded element out of the tube sheet, place it in the collection bag, insert a new one and press it down to seal. The route is short, the single load small, repetition high and posture unfavourable throughout. After a hundred elements work gets careless, and careless here means poorly seated. A single badly seated element makes the clean gas side useless.

02 — The solution

How we solve it

Take the load off the arms

The weight is not the problem; that it hangs on stretched arms is. An articulated arm rope unit or a balancer on a light rail above the tube sheet takes exactly that: the operator guides the element but does not carry it. The strain on shoulder and neck disappears – and care at the two-hundredth element is the same as at the first.

A mount that grips from above

Filter elements have a flanged rim or head plate on top. An expanding mount pushing outward against the rim, or a clamping ring on the head, holds securely and releases one-handed. For the loaded element one rule is added: pull slowly, then place directly into the waiting bag without knocking off the dust cake.

Mobile where the plant calls for it

Not every filter plant justifies a fixed installation – some are serviced once a quarter. For those there is the mobile version on a chassis: it comes up to the platform for the service, is supported at four points and goes back to the store afterwards. Same kinematics, without construction work on the plant.

03 — What changes

At the workstation afterwards

  • Overhead work without load on the arms.
  • Care stays the same across the whole maintenance day.
  • Badly seated elements become rarer.
  • The dust cake stays on the element while it is placed.
  • For infrequent servicing a mobile unit without fixed installation suffices.
Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Four kilograms – is a device really needed?

For one element no. For two hundred in a day, overhead, yes. The key indicator method assesses posture and repetition, not just the single load – and that is exactly where the red band sits here.

What about dust during removal?

Pull slowly and place directly into the waiting bag. Because the device guides the movement instead of someone jerking with stretched arms, much more dust stays on the element. For critical dusts we add an extraction hood at the removal point.

Does it pay off for two services a year?

As a fixed installation usually not. As a mobile unit serving several plants, often yes – the calculation runs over service duration and the number of plants, not over a single one.
