Equipment lasts when it is looked after.
Maintenance is the one form of upkeep you get to schedule yourself. Everything else happens when it happens – usually in the shift where it suits least. We maintain lifting equipment and manipulators of any make across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, to a plan derived from how you use the unit rather than from a standard interval.
The two words get used interchangeably but mean different things. An inspection establishes whether the unit is safe – it is mandatory, it assesses, and it changes nothing. Maintenance intervenes: it lubricates, adjusts and replaces before something fails. Anyone who only has equipment inspected will reliably find out when it broke. DIN 31051 separates the two cleanly, and so do we.
A balancer lifting four hundred times a day in an assembly cell needs a different rhythm from a jib crane that moves a pallet twice a week. We set the interval from operating hours, load spectrum and environment – dust, swarf, moisture and cleaning agents shorten it noticeably. Where an hour meter exists we work from it; where there is none we estimate from the cycle and correct at the second visit.
On chain units the load chain for elongation and wear of the nominal diameter, the chain box, sprocket and guide. On rope units the wire rope for broken wires, corrosion, strand failure and loss of diameter, plus drum, rope guide and end fastening. Always: the load hook for throat opening and safety latch, the brake for holding torque and lining thickness, limit switches and emergency stop for function. On pneumatic units add the service unit, valves, hoses and load holding on pressure loss.
We build our own equipment and still service other people’s. That is not a concession but the normal case in any shop that has grown over time: units from three decades and five manufacturers standing side by side. A separate contract per make means five visits, five reports and five contacts. One is enough. Where manufacturer data exists we work to it; where the paperwork is missing – the rule on older units – we derive the scope from the design and the applicable rules, and write down what it is based on.
