Offering up a two-metre rear panel without touching the paint

An enclosure rear panel weighs forty kilograms – manageable if it were compact. But it is two metres tall, painted and has to be guided vertically to the frame while somebody sets the bolts.

01 — The task

Forty kilograms would be carryable. Two metres of edge is not.

Take the panel off the stack, upright it, guide it to the enclosure frame, hold it in position and bolt it. By hand it takes two: one holds, one bolts. The one holding stands in an awkward posture with stretched arms, and every contact with the frame leaves a scratch in the paint that has to be touched up. The combination of format, delicacy and holding time is the real problem – not the weight.

How we solve it

Vacuum, because clamping leaves marks

Painted sheet must not be clamped – every jaw leaves a mark that has to be touched up. Suction cups take the surface, spread the load and leave no trace. Four to six cups on a beam hold the panel along its length so it does not twist. In ESD areas pads, handles and wheels are made conductive and included in the earthing.

Holding is the real service

What separates this from a plain lifting aid is standing time: the panel has to stand unmoved against the frame for a minute while bolting happens. A device holding the load in any position replaces the second person for exactly that. The operator aligns, lets go and bolts with both hands – that is where a two-person job becomes a one-person job.

The swing out of horizontal

Off the stack the panel comes lying down, to the frame it goes standing up. A damped swing axis turns that rotation into a finger movement and prevents the part being rested on the floor – otherwise that is where the scratch on the bottom edge comes from. Add a torque arm on the same device and the bolting reaction is absorbed too, keeping the station one unit.

Frequently asked questions

Forty kilograms – does that need a device?

Not because of the weight but because of format and holding time. One person cannot grip a two-metre panel so that it stays in position and the paint stays untouched. The key indicator method assesses exactly that through posture and execution conditions.

What about ESD?

Every contacting and load-bearing part is made conductive and included in the earthing – pads, handles, wheels and the path to the hall floor. That is a standard design but has to be explicitly required; retrofitting is laborious.

Do different enclosure sizes run across the same station?

Yes, via sliding cup arms with detents. We size the range from the smallest and largest format occurring; in between it changes over without tools.
