Hoist inspection and maintenance in Sauerland and South Westphalia
South Westphalia is one of the densest industrial regions in the country: metal processors and suppliers, many of them working in several shifts. A hoist there does not age by years but by shifts.

In metal processing and at suppliers, hoists at presses, machining centres and assembly lines run at the pace of the machine. In two- or three-shift operation a hoist accumulates as many operating hours in one year as elsewhere in three. The theoretical service life for which a series-built hoist is designed is then reached much earlier than its year of manufacture suggests – and with it the general overhaul. Anyone who does not determine the service life used learns about it only through the breakdown.
Foundries and forges add heat, dust and shock; there, brief visual checks by the operator and shorter maintenance intervals are the most effective protection. From Hamm and Bochum, South Westphalia is a day trip. We schedule visits to fit planned shutdowns – maintenance that stops the line is otherwise postponed until it can no longer be.

Where it is hot, dusty and heavy, the execution decides.

Heavy and delicate at once – that is the combination.
To the industryFrequently asked questions about inspection and maintenance
How does multi-shift operation affect the inspection interval?
The operator sets the interval in the risk assessment. High utilisation and a harsh environment argue for shorter intervals than the usual year – and for determining the service life used at every inspection.
Can maintenance take place outside production hours?
We align visits with planned shutdowns, weekends or works holidays as far as scheduling allows. Raise the period early.
Is a general overhaul of an old chain hoist still worthwhile?
That depends on the condition of the load-bearing structure, the availability of spare parts and the requirements. An upgrade is often more economical than replacement – the decision starts with a survey, not with the year of manufacture.
Tell us what you have hanging.
Type, capacity, year of manufacture and last inspection date are enough to start. We will give you a date and what it covers.
