Handling technology for the food industry

In food production, handling technology has to do two things at once: move loads safely and survive daily wet cleaning. That is why our units are available with a food-grade Rilsan coating, encapsulated bearings and no corners where anything can collect.

01 — Applications

Hygienic, wash-down proof – and still sensitive.

Typical handling tasks in Food industry — and what they demand technically.

01

Crates and cases

Stack, transfer and feed beverage crates, meat crates and E2 cases into washing lines.

02

Moulds and vessels

Lift, tip and empty cheese moulds, mixing vessels and kettles.

03

Drums and canisters

Pick up, transport and dose drums of ingredients, concentrates or cleaning agents.

04

Sack feeding

Guide flour, sugar and ingredient sacks up to 50 kg from the pallet to the feeding station and present them.

05

Baking trays and trolleys

Move tray stacks and rack trolleys without tipping them.

06

Machine parts during cleaning

Carry screws, blades and forming parts during daily stripping and reassembly.

02 — What matters

What Food industry demands of handling technology

Wet cleaning is the real endurance test

It is not the load that pushes handling equipment to its limit in food production, but the foam cleaner at 60 degrees, every day, for eight years. That is why the design matters: Rilsan is a food-grade polyamide coating that forms a closed film without pores in which germs could settle. Bearings are encapsulated, edges rounded, horizontal ledges avoided. What cannot be cleaned does not belong in the production area.

The sack that costs every back

The 25 kg sack feed is the classic case: bent over the pallet, twisted, lifted, presented above shoulder height, cut open. Assessment methods rate this combination of bending, twisting and lifting far more harshly than the weight alone suggests. A manipulator with a sack gripper picks the sack up horizontally, brings it to height and tips it over the feed – a bent twisting movement becomes guidance at hip height.

Chilled, wet and dry areas

A unit in a cold store at two degrees has different requirements from one in a bakery at 35 degrees with flour dust. Flour dust is a subject of its own: in dust zones under the European explosion protection rules separate requirements apply, and we supply the corresponding design. Before any sizing we therefore ask about temperature, humidity, cleaning method and zone classification – four answers that determine the design.

What an inspection wants to see

Handling units are work equipment under German industrial safety regulations and, as a rule, lifting equipment under DGUV Rule 54. They require a recurring inspection by a competent person, documented in the inspection log. On request we carry out that inspection – scheduled and documented, so the records are complete when someone asks for them.

05 — Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions from Food industry

What is a Rilsan coating?

Rilsan is a food-grade polyamide powder coating. It forms a closed film, is impact resistant and withstands the alkaline and acidic cleaners common in food production. Because it is pore-free it offers germs no foothold – the decisive difference from ordinary paint.

Are the units suitable for wet cleaning?

In the corresponding version, yes. We encapsulate bearings and drives, route energy under protection and avoid horizontal surfaces. Tell us your cleaning agent, temperature and method – foam, high pressure or CIP – and we design accordingly.

Is there a solution for sack feeding?

Yes. A manipulator with a sack gripper picks the sack off the pallet, brings it to working height at the feeding station and tips it under control. The operator no longer bends and no longer twists under load.

Do I need an explosion-protected version in a flour dust zone?

If your explosion protection document classifies the area as dust zone 20, 21 or 22: yes. Tell us the zone and we supply the unit in the approved version.
