Rail System

The whole area covered – in X and Y.

An aluminium or steel crane runway and rail system that opens up a complete working area in the X and Y directions via bridge and trolley. The basis to which all Kolibri base units are connected – dimensioned individually.

How it works

The hall becomes the working area.

Bridge and trolley open up the area in X and Y – every point beneath becomes reachable. The system is the base: balancer, lifting axis or articulated arm attach to it, depending on the task.

  1. 1

    Runways

Ceiling or floor steelwork as the basis of the system.

  2. 2

    Bridge & trolley

Move the load across the area in the X and Y directions.

  3. 3

    Device interface

Interface for all Kolibri base units (lifting axis, articulated arm, balancer …).

The working cycle

Picking up

The base unit picks up the load at the trolley.

Lifting

Vertical stroke via the connected unit.

Travelling in X/Y

Bridge and trolley move the load across the entire area.

Setting down

Set down precisely at any point of the area.

Applications

Wherever loads are moved precisely.

01

Assembly workstations

Typical in the automotive and supplier industry: parts are fed, positioned and joined ergonomically – without effort.

02

Machine loading

For metal and plastics processing: place workpieces safely into machines and fixtures, without reaching into the danger zone.

03

Order picking & packaging

In logistics and consumer goods production: move boxes and containers sensitively – consistent output, spared backs.

04

Workpiece handling

In tool and mould making: guide heavy parts safely and position them precisely.

05

Food industry

For dairy, beverages and meat: usable hygienically with a food-grade Rilsan coating.

06

Explosion-proof areas

In chemicals, coatings and pharmaceuticals (ATEX zones): approved and safe in the explosion-proof version.

Why the Rail System?

Entire area

Opens up a complete working area in X and Y.

Modular

All base units can be connected.

As designed

Spans and capacity dimensioned individually.

Expandable

Switches, parking stations and travel drives for complex layouts.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about the Rail System

Does the building have to carry the system?

For suspended systems, yes – the roof structure has to take the load. Where the reserve is missing or unknown, we build free-standing on our own columns. Structural capacity is therefore the first question, not the last.

When does a rail beat individual units?

Usually from around three similar workstations that are not served simultaneously. Then one unit on the rail replaces several fixed units.

What should be considered for the energy supply?

It is the most common retrofit point. A drag chain is simple but limits the travel path; a continuous energy supply allows unlimited travel and rotation but has to be planned from the start. Also plan a spare channel.
